Remember how in college you're faced with all-nighters, long days, and all this work? Working for Corporate America is nothing like this. You work the normal 9-5. Yeah, right. Especially yeah right if you're an engineer. The Man sticks it to you and hard.
This week has been chaos, and it's only getting incrementally worse. Like I said before, my schedule has been pretty unpredictable but this week work was a crazy beast. Monday started out "normal". I worked my normal 9-hour day, and I had to stay a little later because I took a 2-hour lunch for a friend's going-away lunch. So sue me. I ended up getting into conversation about life with my boss at the end of the day and before I knew it, it was past 8. I didn't charge the chat. The next day turned out to be around 10-11 hours. And yesterday was around 11-12 hours. Today? Freakin 12.5 hours and I was working in 2 different counties today! I am seriously going to use my overtime because with the hours this week, I should be able to while also carrying over the 4 hours I need for my day off next Friday (which I won't be able to take). I have to go in tomorrow, and I'll have to go in next Friday so maybe I'll be able to charge a couple days worth of overtime!!! Well... if next week is calmer, then at least I should have enough for one day.
The fact that working all these hours doesn't bother me bothers me... mainly because maybe it means I don't have enough of a life to care! Waaah! Haha... but I've also been called a workaholic. That's pretty funny to me because I disagree, however I've taken virtually no vacation time yet this year. I'm on a roll. But I think the main reason it doesn't bother me is because I could really use that extra money, even if it's not that significant :) *sigh* I need to go to bed.
