Heroes Finale Season 1

Peter Petrelli, you sexy man

The second half of the Heroes finale aired last night and although it was a good episode, it wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped. I had my usual Tuesday morning discussion with my fellow Heroes fans and we came up with the same gripes.

  • Why didn't Sylar stop Hiro when he finally stabbed him? The only explanation that we can think of was that Sylar already doubted Hiro's ability to go through with it. But this is a disappointing reason. Even more disappointing was Hiro's weak attack. I'm sorry, Hiro, but in this episode you frustrated me. I would have rather seen some slicing and dicing... and perhaps you distributing the remains of Sylar to the rest of the heroes he pissed off. Or maybe that's too Tarantino.

  • Why didn't Sylar just die?!? Do we really need him around still? There was already a reference to some new villain that gives the heeby jeebies to the "tracking system". Frankly, the tracking system herself gives me the creeps.

  • Why didn't Peter just fly himself out of there rather than taking his brother to his fiery death? In Peter's defense, I think when he loses control of his powers he can't access any of his other powers. I got your back, Peter. Call me. Haha j/k :D

  • Did Nathan really sacrifice himself up there with exploding Peter? What the hell was he thinking?!? I don't think he died. And I'm actually disappointed that I predicted this solution after the first premonition of the Peter-explosion. If Nathan was a smart cat, he would have flown him up there and jetted his ass out of there before Peter exploded. Hey Nathan, say what's up to the Silver Surfer while you're up there and ask him not to destroy our planet. We can do that ourselves.

A few other things that I thought were worth mentioning... I thought it would have been a good idea for Peter to have met Linderman so he could absorb his ability to heal. That way, even if the explosion happens they would say, "who cares?!" because Peter can just go around and heal everyone and possibly bring them back to life. I guess there wouldn't be much of a story after that... so maybe I take that back.

And anyone else make a connection with the cockroach at the very end and the reference to the cockroach in Mohinder's lecture in the first episode? Perhaps a Sylar/roach comparison considering all the evolution characteristics of the cockroach? Apparently, some others have already seen the significance of the roach. (Haha, a Heroes wiki... brilliant.)

And as a side note... did anyone notice that Sylar's mom is the chick from Little Shop of Horrors? No? Oh... I did, but I guess I just notice things like that.

So what's in store for the fans thirsting for more during the hiatus? There's talk of a spin off "Heroes: Origins" to take its time slot on Monday nights. It will feature new heroes discovering their powers, and they're going to add an interactive aspect to the show. Viewers will get to choose who stays. Sounds interesting. And like Nathan Petrelli, I hope it flies :P

Summer Blockbusters 2007

This past weekend commenced the long awaited list of summer (and spring?) blockbusters.

Spider-Man 3 premiered in all its glory reaping in a whopping $149 million this past opening weekend. $10 from my pocket contributed to this lump sum. I liked the movie, and I know this because despite catching a 12:01AM showing (2 hours and 1 minute past my super early bedtime) I managed to remain bright-eyed and awake throughout the duration of the movie (and during the waiting!). Much of the movie was comical (no pun intended) much like the previous Spidey flicks, and I always enjoy some comic relief. The action was entertaining and so was the bad, black Spidey. I like to call him "Emo Spidey" or "Emo Peter" particularly due to his dark greasy hair that covered one eye and his black eyeliner. Whom I found more entertaining was Harry mainly when he was "forgetful Harry". The goofy smiles cracked me up. I was excited to see Venom, but I think his time on screen was limited. I expected him to show up earlier in the film. Though, I was pleasantly surprised at how they were able to integrate three villains in the film without the story lines getting choppy or being unrelated to one another. Good job, guys. Overall, I think the first Spider-Man was still the best one but I'm happy with all three :)

Next up...

Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At The World's End, May 25
I'm not sure how I feel about this movie. I didn't really like the second Pirates, but of course I'll still have to see this one. Not much advertisement has been promoted aside from billboards speckled around the city. An interesting approach, but I guess if you held the previous record for the largest opening weekend (before Spider-Man 3) you don't need too much advertisement now do you?

Transformers, July 4
It's release date is reminiscent of ID4 but I guess its premise is similar. I'm pretty excited about this movie mainly because it just looks bad ass. Of course, there's a sense of nostalgia since my generation is the main generation that was found playing with Transformers as children. I used to have a transformer-esque watch as a child when I lived in Japan. It was yellow and I could pop the robot/watch off the strap and play with it. I miss that watch.

Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix (Part 5), July 13
This movie needs no explanation. I can't wait. Neither can I wait for the last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, being released July 21st.

FREE iPod Shuffle

No, no, no... thank YOU, Wowio! And thanks to my friends and family who helped me get this!!! :D After I signed up under girlrobot's referral and saw how she got hers, I knew it wasn't a scam and I went ahead and starting pushing invitations on others. I'm now a happy owner of a FREE blue iPod shuffle! I would have preferred pink but since I already have a video iPod and B doesn't have one yet, I figured I could share and get a color that's universal :P
