We've been pretty consistent so far, but I think with everything going on at work and with the wedding it's been a stressful time and working out is the last thing I want to be worrying about. And I'm pretty sure the stress is probably working against me if anything.

I needed some motivation so I recently came across some forum posts about suggested workout songs or albums that get people going. Some of the suggestions were a bit questionable, but I wrote down a few that were recommended by more than a couple folks. From the ones I checked out, the one I liked the best so far is Girl Talk. Why I've never heard of him, I don't know. But if you like upbeat dance mashup mixes of Top 40 songs sometimes mixed with some old school classics, then you should definitely give this guy a listen. I even read somewhere that his latest album is up for free download on his site, but I haven't verified this yet :) Here is a quick bio from Last.fm:

Girl Talk is the stage name of Gregg Gillis (born October 26, 1981). Gillis, who is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has released four CD albums on Illegal Art and vinyl releases on 333 and 12 Apostles. He began making music while a student at Case Western Reserve University. He specializes in sample-based remixes, in which he uses at least a dozen elements from different songs to create a new song. At his early shows, Gillis became notorious for his exhibitionist antics on stage, spontaneously removing most or all of his clothing mid-performance. He has given different explanations for the origin of his stage name, once saying it alluded to a Jim Morrison poem and once saying it alluded to an early Merzbow side project. Girl Talk was featured in Good Copy Bad Copy, a documentary film about copyright/fair use.
Sounds like seeing him live would be an interesting experience! Also, they give you free shipping coupon codes every time you chat which is nice :D Anyway, I recently bought the studio stick foundation because it was recommended for my needs, but the last few times I used it I questioned whether or not I was applying it properly. I ended up asking an artist online and the following is the transcript of our chat that may be useful to those who might wonder the same thing :)

info: Welcome to MAC Cosmetics Online. One of our Artists will be with you shortly.
info: Hello. Thank you for your interest in MAC Cosmetics. My name is Sara. How may I assist you?
Sara: Hi Cheryl! How can I help you today?
Cheryl: Hi Sara, I recently purchased the studio stick foundation... I was wondering if you had advice on how to apply it properly?
Sara: Make sure your skin is moisturized and apply a bit of Prep + Prime Skin if you want to create a really smooth surface to the skin. Swipe the Studio Stick Foundation onto the skin, esp near the center of the face (forehead, nose, chin, cheeks close to nose) and blend well with foundation brush #190 or Wedge Sponges. You can dab on a bit more wherever you need extra coverage. Make sure you blend well near the nose and along the jawline, then dust a bit of powder on top to "set" the foundation.
Sara: Click here for the Brushes page.
Sara: Click here for the MAC Prep + Prime page.
Cheryl: Ok, so it's basically just swipe a line and blend?
Sara: You got it. You can also try swiping your brush over the foundation, but I find it easiest to apply when applied directly to the skin.
Cheryl: Ok, cool
Cheryl: I also had another question
Sara: As a thank you for chatting with us today, I would like to offer complimentary Standard shipping with your next MAC Cosmetics Online purchase. Please enter the one-time use offer code (sorry guys, this is for me!)during the checkout process (US Residents only).
Cheryl: I had talked to an artist in-store and asked about what she would suggest to use for an outdoor summer wedding for oily/combo skin... she suggested the stick foundation. Do you agree?
Cheryl: I'm looking for good coverage
Sara: If you have oilier skin, you may prefer the Studio Tech Foundation since it's more matte. Or, the Face and Body Foundation for sheer coverage. Studio Stick is a great foundation for brides too (it's got great coverage and it photographs well), but it might be too moisturizing for an oilier skin. If you do choose to use it, just be sure to dust Blot Powder on top to help control the shine. That would be a great combination for wedding perfect skin.
Sara: Click here for the MAC Foundation page.
Sara: Click here for the MAC Powder page.
Cheryl: ok great, thanks for the recommendations!
Cheryl: that's all i have for now
Cheryl: thank you for your help
Sara: No problem!

Thanks, Sara! :D

Website Of The Day: Polyvore

For a while now, I've been sitting on my wedding webpage project due to lack of inspiration. Usually I'm motivated to design a webpage immediately when I'm inspired by a layout, pictures, whatever. But I've been having a hard time coming up with some ideas for my Alice in Wonderland inspired page because there is SOOO much you can do with it. I finally came up with a couple of ideas that I thought would be suitable for my wedding, but I hit a wall when thinking about what images to use, how to get these images, if I should photoshop them myself, etc. Not only that, I'm trying to design the webpage in flash and it's my first time doing a flash webpage (other than soundboards)! I didn't give myself as much time as I thought I would need because I thought I would figure something out in time, but I'd like to have the site launched by the time I send out the invitations (which is very soon!). So unfortunately my page might not be as cool as I see it in my head at its initial launch, but hopefully I'll have time to go in and make small tweaks before anyone knows the difference :)

Anyway, as I was struggling to find the right pictures/clipart to use for my project, I stumbled across this site called Polyvore.

Polyvore lets you mix and match images from anywhere on the web, to create outfits, interior designs, or any kind of collage.
Wow! It's like looking into the minds of other people and seeing what they consider to be related to whatever theme or topic I'm interested in. I considered it to be like making idea boards using clips of pictures from the web rather than a magazine. I love what people come up with!

I think it's a great resource when brainstorming ideas, especially for a wedding!

Custom Bra Fitting

I had made an appointment to visit Bradelis NY yesterday to get a free consultation on a bra fitting. I had seen their ad in a 'Japan Up' circular and have been meaning to come in to see what they had to say. It is commonly said that most ladies are wearing the wrong size bra or wear bras that do not offer the proper support, and even wear bras much longer than they are intended for (I'm guilty of this!). I wanted to see if I was part of this population :) One way of possibly knowing you're wearing the wrong size? If you have fat under your armpits, it's probably unsupported breast tissue.

When I walked in the store, I was greeted by two very sweet Japanese ladies. The atmosphere was very cute. It was a French-inspired boutique with cute and sexy underwear and lingerie on display. The process was fairly quick. I went into a dressing room, they took my measurements, and brought a few bras in my size for me to try on. Right off the bat I thought, "What?!? That's what size they are saying I am? No way." I tried them on and sure enough they fit, but eventually I still had to go one more cup up. The lady was very nice and knowledgeable. She informed me how to properly wear your bra and more importantly how to put it on: "Scoop, scoop!" I never paid that much attention to how I was putting on these undergarments before. I am newly schooled. She also informed me of the proper way of caring for the bra and washing it. I was doing it all wrong. Oops.

Overall, I think it was worth the visit and I encourage girls to do something similar if you are at all unsure of your real size. I thought at most I could be a cup size different, but not up to 3 cups! I ended up purchasing one of the ones I tried on and it did cost more than I would normally want to spend, but I can't complain because alterations on bras bought there are complimentary if need be (for up to 3 months or something)! This is great for a very custom fit.

Some Deals

Free Tote At Victoria's Secret With Any Pink Purchase

I received this information in my email yesterday and initially thought it was an online-only offer, but I went to VS last night and discovered it was in stores, too! I couldn't decided between the pink, red, black, or blue tote, but ended up going home with the blue tote that says "rebels" on it :)

So what Pink purchase did I make? Something from their collegiate line!

I was really excited to see that the VS I went to was rocking the UCLA gear :D I had a really hard time figuring out which merchandise I wanted to indulge in because they were all so cute! Eventually I made a decision and probably spent more than I should have. But I'm still happy :P

Nordies Anniversary Sale July 18
It's July and time for Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale! Why do I care? Because of all the beauty exclusives!

I stopped by the Mario Badescu counter because before this I only knew of this skin care line online. I had just made a larger purchase online because I had a coupon code for a discount. I was a little peeved to discover that my same purchase was now being sold for so much cheaper for Nordie's Anniversary Sale! Anyway, I buckled and pre-ordered the Mario Badescu Anniversary 2008 Set because I couldn't pass up a good deal. I really like this stuff so why not stock up when it's offered for cheaper? I know it seems a bit pricey, but honestly these 16 oz bottles are HUGE and they work really well for my skin. A little goes a long way with these, too. They are the exact set of skin care (minus the moisturizer) that I bought. And it comes with a bag, LOL. You can score free samples just by filling out the questionnaire on their site. They'll come up with a regime for you skin type based on the answers to your questions and later send you a set of samples for all the products they recommend. They won't tell you that they'll send you samples, but they will send you samples :) It doesn't hurt to try, and honestly I was pretty happy with my results when I tried it.

I stopped by the MAC counter excited to see what they had in store, but I was a little disappointed in what they had and passed up the "deal". I was proud of myself :P I wish I had seen the Shiseido deal though because the White Lucent line was something I was considering using but was too expensive! Oh well. I have months and months supply of Mario for now, haha.

Anyway, I think that's it for now. Happy shopping!

It's For A Wedding

In light of the recent planning going on, here are a couple videos that B and I got a good laugh at. They are clips from a British comedy called Man Stroke Woman and they are SO TRUE! Fellow residents of California, get your FREE lipstick from MAC in the shade "California Dreamin'"! I waited for it, but I didn't get the email myself so thank goodness for all the forums for MAC fans :P All you have to do is print out the 'email' and bring it to MAC to redeem it. I was originally worried that I'd have to have an original email print-out, but it wasn't an issue at all. Just be prepared to give them your name since it's limited to one per customer. Also, I'm not sure if you already have to be part of their database, but it doesn't hurt to try anyway even if you're not. It's a cute shade of pink and a bit sheer so definitely wearable. I tried to take pictures of it swatched on my hand, but it didn't come out since it was so sheer but it does have buildable coverage. Try to get them while you can! I better go inform all my girl friends!

Curry House Anniversary Special

Curry House is currently having their 25th anniversary special where they roll back the prices and menu to what it was in 1983! I would have loved to buy both like originally planned, but I figured the video capture on this new point and shoot would suffice for now. I'll purchase the Flip when I feel the real need to. Besides, I needed to budget for accessories for the G9! :P

But anyway, I'm so excited! My new camera should be coming in in a few days. This will be a great addition to my Canon "collection" :P B calls himself a Canonite, but I joke that I'm more of a Canonite than he is! Hehe... I've bought 2 printers and 5 cameras all Canon, my favorite being my XTi (but maybe now my G9, too!). I don't use my Rebel XTi much mainly because of its bulkiness and other than the standard lens it comes with, I only have a macro lens that B bought me and nothing else. He has his own set of wide angle and portrait lenses for his own Rebel XT, but I'd rather have my own set :) I know I need to put it to good use but I lack inspiration and time. I don't even use my Holga much at all :( The G9 will be much easier to carry around and use when inspiration strikes! I can't wait to use it. B also reminded me about girlrobot's post about CHDK (Canon Hacker's Development Kit). I've been too lazy to give a thorough review because there are a lot of little things to consider (but I forget about sometimes) so here's a quick and dirty review.

Pros:

- Interface: This includes GUI, buttons, etc. The Zune software is definitely much prettier than iTunes. I think there are some animated menus or what not but my video card is too lame to be able to see them. It doesn't have a scroll wheel, but the touch sensitive button works just fine. You can scroll up-down and left-right. I was a little disappointed with the classic iPod's scroll wheel's sensitivity (the old video iPod was much more responsive) so I don't mind not having this on the Zune. The software works well with auto downloading music information without telling it to, although there's times where it wasn't always correct. And if you're adding a folder to the library (like say your music folder), it really does detect immediately if new files were added, something which I couldn't get to work for me in iTunes. I always had to manually add files to my iTunes library. Also, the Zune screen is so much bigger than the iPod (not sure about the iTouch though), and you can choose the background on-device.

- The 80GB comes with premium headphones that work really well. I like these in-ear type headphones.

- It has an FM tuner with great reception.

- It plays more than just my .mp4 format videos. I had .avi and other formats that it picked up and I could actually play them on my Zune without having to convert the format. Furthermore, the videos play in landscape mode (love this).

- Like the iPod, it has an "on-the-go" playlist that you can add to on the device. Unlike the iPod, you can delete and modify the playlist on the device without the software.

- It's capable of wireless sync. I've tried this once and it worked beautifully, but I would probably only use it if I only needed to update a few files. I'm sure the transmit power is draining.

- It has a social network aspect. It's ok, but not of great use to me.

Cons:

- Interface: I didn't like how the Zune software makes it a little difficult to edit the id tags of songs.

- The battery life appears to be less than the classic iPod. Before purchasing the Zune I had read a review that says that the battery lives are similar. For me, I don't see this. My classic used to last days without having to recharge, but with the Zune I need to charge it every other day. I'm wondering if it's because of its standby mode. The iPod would actually shut off if it wasn't used for a while, but I haven't investigated if the Zune does the same or if it sits in standby. The battery seems to drain quickly especially if you play video. One annoyance also is that the battery indicator doesn't seem to always be accurate. Sometimes it says it's about half full but then shuts off. When the battery is low or dead there is no warning for shut off. It just turns off.

- It cannot be used as an external HD. Not a big deal to me because I never took advantage of this with my iPod. I didn't like lugging around the cable.

I think I covered most of the bases. I'll add more if/when I remember them :)

Play Old School Nintendo Games In Firefox!

Geeksugar's download of the day is FireNES and is potentially a productivity-killer! So I thought I would throw in a few random updates on what's been going on.

- B and I got to review our wedding/engagement studio pictures last Friday and we're pleasantly surprised to see that almost all of them turned out great! The bad part is our package only came with 30 poses and we took almost 200 pictures. We managed to narrow it down to 60 and then to 50 of our favorite shots, but of course it came at a price. I'm so excited to see the designs they come up with. I really love this studio's style and after seeing how our pictures turned out, I have much more respect for the photographer. He really impressed me! We were initially worried because he would take only one shot per pose, but who knew he would nail almost every shot! We can't wait to see the photographer's picks for the site. I'll be checking here often!

- B and I took a private dance lesson recently. It was only 45 minutes but we managed to learn the rumba in this time. We could have learned more if the pace wasn't so slow, but oh well. I'm still not sure how I'm going to approach our "first dance" but we figured it wouldn't hurt to start with the rumba since our song ("Everything" by Michael Buble) is considered to be this genre. We didn't anticipate the lessons costing so much but I think we might be ok without them. I've always wanted to take ballroom dance lessons, but now I'm not sure when :)

- I finally got my car washed after several MONTHS. I don't know why but it makes me happy to see my car CLEAN from the inside out, hehe. I'm so happy I got the guy we did to dry off my car. He took his time and really cleaned it out. He even waxed it a little and dressed the tires... which I didn't pay for! Yay, my car is clean :D

- I'm finally done with the slew of graduations this year. No more sitting in the hot sun and having to take time off of work to attend. Congratulations to all the graduates!!!

Snaps Is The Name Of The Game... from P.S. I Love You

A coworker of mine had me borrow the movie "P.S. I Love You" because 1) he considered it to be a decent movie, and 2) he wanted to see if it would make me cry. For some reason, some of the folks at work (including B) have been trying to find a movie that will make me cry. It's pretty funny really. I'm not much of a crier at movies, and I honestly can't remember the last time I cried for a movie besides at "ET" when I was about 4. I'm also not a chick-flick type of girl either. I blame it on having a heart of stone :P Anyway, after watching the movie, I thought it was pretty good. It definitely had its funny parts, and Leonidas, I mean Gerard Butler, was so sweet he puts all men to shame. And for the record, NO I did not cry, hehe ;)

One of the little things I remember from the movie was when they were playing that "snaps is the name of the game, the name of game is snaps" game. I remember this game being played as a child, but I never got into it and figured out how to play. I did a search and discovered that they actually made a site for this game from the movie! Cute site :D After figuring out how to play, I played their online game. I think the last couple of questions were bogus because I totally knew the answer, but whatever. Try it here!

Snaps is the Name of the Game on FunnyOrDie.com

CNET's Video To Recover Deleted Files

Since B has been getting a lot of requests to help save lost data on memory disks and hard drives, I thought it was a little ironic to get emailed a video from CNET for recovering deleted files. The other week she had a show that was presented as "The World's Smartest Kids", but really it was the world's most talented kids. One of the kids is someone who apparently has become very popular from YouTube but I've never heard of until I watched the show. She's a 14 or 15 year old singer who can belt it out as good as Whitney Houston herself! Her name is Charice Pempengco and she is AMAZING! I'm particularly interested because she comes from the Philippines! Yay, I'm so proud :P Here is the clip from Oprah.

And this is the video that made her famous:

I can't wait to see where her talent brings her!

CNET TV's Free Photoshop Alternatives Video

I love to play with image editing software, and I used to be an active user of Photoshop when I was more motivated to design my site. I haven't used it in a while and since I don't want to deal with price or licensing issues, I'm always open to better alternatives... particularly FREE ones :) CNET TV did a video promoting three good alternatives.

Photoshop is great but way too much editing power for the average user and way too expensive. Try one of these three free alternatives.

In short, try paint.net, fotoflexer.com, and GIMP! I've played with fotoflexer as well as picnik a little before (fotoflexer seems to be incorporated in photobucket now too!), but I've always wanted to try GIMP :)

SNL's Japanese Office

It's always funny to watch different renditions of the show "The Office" :)

Tokidoki Tigers?!?

Wow. Two of my favorite things married into one. The tokidoki line AND Asics Onitsuka Tigers!!! Be still my heart, haha! I still have yet to invest in the perfect Tigers (they can be a bit pricey unfortunately) and I don't really wear the ones I have, but wow! What a great combo :) I like all the low-tops in this collection, but I think all but the pink ones are wearable. The hi-tops look a little too wrestler for me :P But I love the soles! It would almost make me not want to wear them out, haha ;)

The Gender Of 'Computer'

I saw this on another site and thought it was right up my alley :)

What gender is ‘computer?’

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

‘House’ for instance, is feminine: ‘la casa.’
‘Pencil,’ however, is masculine: ‘el lapiz.’

A student asked, ‘What gender is ‘computer’?’

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer’ should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men’s group decided that ‘computer’ should definitely be of the feminine gender (’la computadora’), because:

1 No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

(THIS GETS BETTER!)

The women’s group, however, concluded that computers should be

Masculine (’el computador’), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model

A BETTER Alternative To Pinkberry!!!

When I say better than Pinkberry, I'm not talking about my homemade brew (which reminds me, I haven't made that in forever!) :P

Anyway, I had another dentist appointment today and because my dentist is a bit far from home, B and I always try to make the trip worth it by hanging out in the area to shop and/or grab a bite. We got to the area a little early today so we grabbed some lunch in one of the plazas. After we ate we still had some time to walk around and shop. I had my heart set on boba, but then I saw this cute store with bright colors in the corner. Nubi Yogurt. Mmm, yogurt! What a great idea for dessert :) I think the name is so cute, too. The nerd in me loves that it looks like it sounds like "newbie", hehe.

So we went in and were a little disoriented. The "menu" on the wall wasn't really a menu, but more just a sentence. I can't remember what it said but I do remember it saying "38 cents/ounce". I'm not very good in estimating size or weight or whatever, so I figured I'll prepare myself for the sticker shock. I stood near the counter for a while just staring at the employee not sure where to begin, then I saw a bunch of people on the other side gathered around. I figured I'd start from there, so when I got there, there were a ton of yogurt machines! I quickly figured out that this place was a self-serve establishment. That's the first benefit over Pinkberry! I grabbed a cup and was faced with Nubi's second plus, the number of different flavors to choose from! It was really hard to choose but since I was in the mood for something rich rather than fruity, I got the peanut butter and cafe latte swirl. Yummm... Then came the toppings and fruit. Again, we were faced with so many choices! Benefit number 3. After adding a topping then discovering there were others we wanted to add, we ended up stopping at 3 toppings: Andes chocolate, Reese's peanut butter cups, and chocolate chip cookie dough. Sooo rich and bad for us, I know! I tried to keep the serving size and toppings to a minimum since we just had lunch and were seeing a dentist right after, haha.

So when it was time to pay, I got a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect. It seems that every time you pay by the ounce, the total comes out to be pretty outrageous. So when the girl rung us up, she mumbled the price. We both said, "What?!? 17?!?!?", thinking that it was more outrageous than we thought. Then she said, "No, 72 cents." 72 CENTS!!! Keep in mind that this was enough to serve both B and me. We couldn't believe our ears. And neither could other customers because they had the same reaction as we did when they got their total, haha.

Anywho, if that last added benefit doesn't have you convinced that this place is better than Pinkberry, I don't know what will! I hope they start opening locations near here!!! And if you want to know if the yogurt tastes good, the answer is yes... and they are almost all fat-free!
